Summer Learning

Taylor ISD is committed to learning all year long, and summer is the perfect time to keep the momentum going! While students can lose some learning and reading progress over the break, small, meaningful moments each day can make a big difference.

Dive into a good book, explore something new, and practice everyday skills together. These simple activities help your child stay confident, curious, and ready to shine in the year ahead. This webpage is packed with fun, easy ideas for families to keep learning alive all summer long, because growing minds don’t take a vacation!

Quack Packs for Pre-K & Kindergarten

Taylor ISD provides summer learning packs for all students entering Pre-K and Kindergarten. These “Quack Packs” include fun, hands-on supplies like books, playdough, and engaging activities designed to build the most important early learning skills. If you have not received one yet, visit TH Johnson Elementary School to register and pick up your very own Quack Pack.

Summer Reading Challenge
Reading over the summer is one of the most important ways to combat the “summer slide.” In fact, research shows that reading at least five books over the summer can help prevent reading loss and keep students on track. Here in Taylor ISD, we are celebrating summer reading by inviting students to complete a summer reading log. All students in grades K–8 who read at least 10 books and turn in their completed log to their campus library between August 12 and 14 will receive a prize. Families can download the summer reading log here.
